How Parents Can Help Us

The Lee Family parents and children enjoying Young Life camp together.
Even though Asian Young Life is for teenagers, parents are important to Asian Young Life too! Parents can support Asian Young Life in a variety of ways — by helping drive kids to and from places, by inviting an Asian Young Life leader to speak at a church event, or by simply telling others in the community about Asian Young Life and the good work that we are doing with teenagers.

Read on for eight specific ways you can get involved...
  1. Attend a Meeting or Activity
  2. All of our meetings and activities are open for parents to observe and to participate. Just check our calendar to see when our next meeting or activity will be taking place. Furthermore, if you would ever like to serve as a chaperone for one of our events, please let us know. We are always in need of additional adult drivers who can help us safely transport young people from place to place. We would love to have you join us! Please note that all of our youth meetings are conducted in English.
Parents can even spend a week with us at our summer camp... and no, you will not have to sleep in a bunk bed in your child's cabin! We have beautiful lodges where parents can live in luxury and observe all that happens at camp. For more information, visit the Adult Guest page on the Young Life website or contact us.
  3. Tell Others
  4. The easiest way to get involved is to simply tell others about us and talk about what we do for your son or daughter. We know that Asian parents talk to other Asian parents, so how about putting in a good word for us? If you attend a church, please consider setting up a meeting for your pastor to get to know our leaders. That way your church community could become more familiar with who we are and how we're helping teenagers to experience abundant life.
  5. Pray/Join K-POP
  6. We believe that prayer is the essential foundation that supports any ministry, and we definitely appreciate people praying for Asian Young Life. Please contact us, and we'll share our prayer concerns with you. Even better, if you speak Korean, join K-POP, our Korean parents prayer group. We meet the last Friday of every month, and we pray through the various needs and concerns of AYL. Please go to our K-POP page to learn more.
  7. Make a Donation
  8. Asian Young Life is financed entirely by donations. We would love for you to consider making a financial contribution to our ministry. Our primary monetary need is to raise money so that we can assist teenagers in going to summer camp. (If you have a child in Asian Young Life, you may have noticed that our price for a week of summer camp is very low... That's because other parents and adults have donated to our organization so that your child can go to camp at a drastically reduced price.) Any gift — no matter what the size — is appreciated. Please go to our Give page to make a donation. Thank you.
  9. Go to Leadership Weekend
  10. Every Memorial Day Weekend, we take leaders, alumni, and any interested adults to an incredible weekend at Lake Champion, a Young Life resort-like camp in upstate New York. Our annual Leadership Weekend gives parents a chance to grow in their faith and to learn more about Young Life. It also provides parents a taste of the fun and first-class facilities that their adolescent children enjoy when they go away to camp. After all, why should only the teenagers have all of the fun? Go to our Leadership Weekend page for more information.
  11. Join and Help Start Our Adult Committee
  12. Much of the "behind-the-scenes" work in other Young Life chapters is done by a wonderful group of people who serve on the adult "committee." No, it's not some secret government agency; it's just a group of everyday folks who care about kids and who love Young Life. Think of these people as the "backbone" of Young Life. Right now, Asian Young Life does not have an actual committee, but we are hoping to form one. Interested? You would help us develop ties with local churches, raise money for our organization, and surround the leaders and kids in prayer. Interested? Please contact us.
  13. Become a Leader
  14. Make a difference in an Asian teenager's life! Right now we are in need of additional adult leaders, especially female leaders and Korean leaders. You do not have to quit your job to be a leader. All you need to have is a passion for Jesus Christ and a passion for teenagers, especially for Asian teens. We'll teach you the rest. (Oh, and if you like having fun, that would definitely be a big plus.) Your life will be richly blessed as you go about building friendships with teenagers. Please visit our Become a Leader page for more information or contact us, and we'll get the ball rolling for you. We'd love to have you on our team.
  15. Serve as a Camp Physician
  16. Is there a doctor in the house? If so, how would you (and your family) like to spend a week at Young Life camp for FREE? During the summer, all of our camps are staffed by medical doctors who volunteer their skills for one week to provide basic medical services for kids and workers at camp. Our camp physicians are housed in beautiful adult guest lodges and are invited to participate in all of the adventures and activities of camp. Interested? Visit the Camp Physician information page to learn more.

Other Ways to Help

Perhaps you do not have the time to commit to doing any of the things above, but you want to help out in some other way. We can definitely still use you! Maybe you can play guitar for us at club. Maybe you can edit camp videos for us. Or possibly you can drive students to and from Campaigners meetings.
Whatever gifts of service you can bring to the table, we are eager to gratefully accept. Contact us, and we'll find a place for you!
